LOCATION OF THE LIBRARY

LOCATION OF THE LIBRARY

La Entrada School is located in Menlo Park, California, and has an enrollment of approximately 600 students in grades 4 through 8. The library is a relatively new facility which was completed in 1998, and is located in the second wing as you walk down the main corridor.

CIRCULATION POLICIES

The La Entrada library strives to develop students who are avid readers. Toward that end, students are encouraged to check out many different kinds of reading material. Research on reading by Stephen Krashen and others indicate that the amount counts--the more that a person reads, the better a reader that person becomes. Surround yourself with materials of all kinds!

Placing a Hold

If all the copies of an item that you are looking for in our library has already been checked out by someone else, you may place a hold on that item. When a copy is returned, the library will check it out to you, and place it in your homeroom or core teacher's mailbox.

Overdues

When you check out an item from the La Entrada library, a two week loan period is entered into the computer. There is no due date indicated on the item. If you have not returned the item to the library by this date, then your teacher will receive a list of overdues for your class, and let you know that the item(s) are overdue. At the beginning of each month, the library will send out written overdue notices. There are NO overdue fines. The amount indicated on the notice is the cost of the item which will have to be paid if the item has been lost.

Renewals

If you have not finished reading a book, or need to keep the book beyond the two week period, you may renew the book for an additional two weeks. You may renew a book twice so you will have a total of six weeks, if you need it. You don't need to bring the book in to the library to renew it. Just let the person at the circulation desk know. You will not be able to renew the item if someone has placed a hold on it, or if you have too many books that are months overdue.

Lost or Damaged Items

If you lose or damage an item while it is checked out to you, you will need to pay the amount indicated on your overdue notice. If a lost item is later found, please return it to the library, and you will receive a refund. At the end of the year, you must pay for lost or damaged items before you can receive your yearbook and report card.
